| In 1661 Boulliau visited Hevelius in Danzig. There, over the course of several months, Boulliau assisted the Danzig astronomer with his observations. Fast friends for nearly fifty years, Boulliau and Hevelius were faithful correspondents and dedicated several publications to each other. The above illustration can be found in Hevelius' Machinae coelestis pars prior, chapter 18 (Pt.I 1673, Pt. II 1679). It depicts Boulliau and Hevelius sketching the solar eclipse of 29 March 1661 with the helioscope. There is little doubt Boulliau's likeness is accurately portrayed, which is consistent with Hevelius' practice in representing his wife and himself. |

| Enhanced comparisons of the above close-up with other iconography indicate that the Hevelius etching is a fair likeness of Boulliau, age 56. |
