Change

This list is a work in progress and is not at all complete, and it is
not organized in any specific order.

These are just some suggestions
& ideas to consider. There is no one “right” way of being... I just
want
to encourage you not to take things for granted... to challenge you to
ask questions... and to resist doing something just because “that’s the
way things have always been done.”
Be Aware & Active
- Think Critically
- Cultivate passion, creativity, and risk in your own life and in
the lives of others.
- Support organizations, causes, and movements
you believe
in. (Give your time, talent, and/or money.)
- Volunteer
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
- Speak up.
- Vote. Make the personal, political.
- Turn off your TV (or at least think critically as you watch it
and consider what else you might do with those 28-35 hours/week)
Be a conscious consumer
- Get informed about the corporations you're
supporting through your purchases
- Instead of "big boxes", consider trying::
- Transportation: Walk, bike, bus, carpool…
if you HAVE
to buy a car, consider a hybrid with high MPG
- Eating out, choose local restaurants, not
chains. Here

- Groceries: Try local grocers & farmers markets... find
one in your area ta the link below:
- Coffee: buy fairtrade coffee at Sweetwater in
Gainesville or find some in your local community
- Clothes: look for items that do not use sweatshop labor and
who source organic fabrics like: www.americanapparel.net
& http://www.patagonia.com
- Books: Shop locally, even when online, see: www.booksense.com, www.powells.com
- Cosmetics: Body Shop,
Burts Bees, brands
from natural
foods stores
- Cleaning supplies: http://www.methodhome.com/
- Media (magazines, videos, etc.): if you
feel like you
are missing something by not reading your favorite magazine, read
someone elses instead of buying a copy
