Urashima Taro, the fisherman, is presented here in oshie-ningyo (padded doll) format. We do not see the sea-turtle which is usually his companion, but he is recognizable not only from his fishing-pole but from the box he carries. This is the box which he has been given by the sea-princess for his trip back to Urashima; he has been told not to open it, and when he does, he will instantly age and die. The rather irritated expression on his face may indicate that he is wondering where his family and friends are (they all died many years ago).
