Swapna M. Banerjee completed her Ph.D. from Temple University, Philadelphia in 1998.  She received her Bachelors and Masters in History from Presidency College and the University of Calcutta in India.  She is the author of the book Men, Women, and Domestic Workers: Articulating Middle Class Identity in Colonial Bengal   (Oxford University Press, 2004). She has articles and reviews published in the Journal of Social History, Gender and History, and the Journal of Asian Studies.  Her research focuses on the history of domesticity and family history with particular reference to subordinate social groups such as women, domestics, and children in colonial Bengal. She is currently working on a project on children and childhood in colonial Bengal.
