David W. DuncanDavid W. Duncan

David W. Duncan is a chemistry major, with minors in physics and English, from Clearwater, Florida. He has received a UF Outstanding Male Leader Award and has dedicated himself to improving the life of UF freshman, serving as a member of the Preview orientation staff, a First-Year Florida instructor and a Residential College Advisor (RCA) in the Hume Hall dormitory.

Duncan also has served as president of the Student Honors Organization and was named both a Barry M. Goldwater and a Morris K. Udall scholar. He sat on several university committees, including the University Curriculum Committee, Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Committee, the Presidential Task Force, and the Undergraduate Advising Council. He interned for Florida Senator Rod Smith in 2003 and performed plant pathology research at the University of Chicago the following summer.

After graduation, Duncan plans to spend the summer conducting butterfly research in Rocky Mountain National Park. In the fall, he will begin a PhD program in chemical biology at Harvard University. “What I liked best about UF was time spent reading by the water at Lake Wauburg,” he says. “I'll most miss working with first-year students, and I'll miss talking with the faculty who I've come to know well.”
