- Maxine L. Margolis, a professor of anthropology, was quoted in a Dec. 4 New York Times story about the growing number of Brazilians who are returning home after living in the U.S. illegally.

- Pam Soltis, curator of the Florida Museum of Natural History, was quoted in a Nov. 26 MSNBC story about her research that found flowering plants had evolved very quickly into five groups.
English
- English
Professor David Leavitt made the "100 Best Books of 2007" list
of the NY Times for his novel “The Indian Clerk.”

Twitchell was quoted in a Nov.

about the "greening" effect on usually
extravagant holiday parties.

for Florida schools was the subject of a Nov. 15 St.

candidate Rudy Giuliani.

Today story about the bid of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez to remain
in office for 20 years.
- Political science professor Daniel
Smith was quoted in a Dec. 5 Sarasota
Herald-Tribune story about GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani's
position on Iran in his campaign strategy.
He was also quoted in a Dec. 14 Miami Herald story about the successful petition drive to add a question on the fall 2008 ballot that seeks to amend the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

- Neil E. Rowland, professor and chair of psychology, was quoted in a Dec. 19 U.S. News & World Report story about the reasons why the elderly lose their internal signals for when to drink.
Religion
- Presentations by three graduate students at the American
Academy of Religion's annual meeting were the subject of a national Associated Press
story. The
students presented a light but serious look at "The Flying
Spaghetti Monster," a parody of intelligent design. The story ran
Nov. 16 in numerous papers nationwide, including USA
Today.
- Religion Professor Vasudha
Narayanan was quoted in a Nov. 9 Washington
Post story about the importance of Diwali, a major Hindu festival.
Zoology
- Zoologist Marta Wayne was quoted in a Nov. 19 MSNBC story about her research into why male organisms evolve faster than female organisms.
