"Soldiers, Saints and Scaramouche: The Iconography of the Sword" at the Thomas Center Galleries
Gainesville, Florida – The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce the opening of Soldiers, Saints and Scaramouche: The Iconography of the Sword exhibition, which will run from January 13, 2007 – February 19, 2007 at the Thomas Center Main Gallery. The exhibition is co-hosted by the University of Florida Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies. The “Medieval Masquerade” gallery reception will occur Friday, January 26 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Visitors can expect to enjoy hors d'oeuvres catered by Celebrations and live medieval musical entertainment provided by members of Musica Vera.
The Swords, Saints and Scaramouche: The Iconography of the Sword exhibition features over 30 diverse swords from various collectors. All of the objects are generously loaned from the collections of: Robert F. Amason, Tom Fasulo, Eric J. Hague, Richard Katsaros, Medieval Times, Warren Capps, Jason Scout Rodelis Family, and Santa Fe Community College Fencing Team. The exhibition and events run in connection to the popular Hoggetowne Medieval Faire and are co-sponsored by the City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, University of Florida Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Musica Vera, Medieval Times and the Santa Fe Community College Fencing Team. The Thomas Center Galleries are located at 302 NE 6th Ave. Gainesville, FL 32601. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 PM.
