Lecture Series - 2005"Beyond Inequality: Gender Empowerment, Poverty Alleviation, and the Redefinition of Manhood."Dr. Fauzia Ahmed Fauzia E. Ahmed has twenty-five years of experience with development programs and policies for low-income families in a variety of countries, including the United States. Early community-based experiences with the African American population enhanced her subsequent work in India, Indonesia, Thailand, and her native Bangladesh. She has worked with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Her current research focuses on how to include low-income men as stakeholders in gender empowerment programs in rural Bangladesh and the impact that notions of masculinity can have on poverty alleviation programs. She is writing a book entitled, "Redefining Manhood: Gender Empowerment, Poverty Alleviation and Masculinity." Currently a Resident Scholar at the Brandeis Women's Studies Research Center, Dr. Ahmed has been a Fellow at the Radcliffe Public Policy Institute and an Instructor at the Harvard School of Public Health. She was a David E. Bell Fellow at the Center for Population and Development Studies at Harvard University from 2003-2004. Dr. Ahmed received her BA from Harvard College and also holds a Master's degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. She received her doctorate from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. |
