Assistantship Program
Teach English in France! Every year, the French Ministry of Education and the Cultural Services at the French Embassy offer between 1,000 and 1,500 teaching assistant positions in French primary and secondary schools and in Instituts universitaires de formation des maîtres (IUFMs) in all regions of France and the DOM_TOMs. The application for the 2008-2009 year will be posted later.
Youth International Meetings 2007
Each year, the French Cultural Services in the United
States offer nearly 50 Youth International Meetings
grants (Rencontres Internationales de Jeunes _ RIJ)
allowing Americans aged 18 to 25 to spend 9 to 15 days
in France.
The next offer will be advertized in Dec 2007.
Chateaubriand Fellowships In the Social Sciences and the Humanities
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers Chateaubriand Scholarships in the Social Sciences & the Humanities for research in France on French literature, cinema, the humanities, the arts, history, philosophy, political sciences. It also offers scholarships for research in science and technology to conduct research in a French laboratory.
Chateaubriand Fellowships allow you to:
- conduct research in France and/or
- work under the supervision of a professor in a French university or research institution and/or
- attend seminars of a specific professor at a French university
Eligibility:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Ph.D. in the Humanities or Social Sciences
- Candidates do not have to be U.S. citizens but must be enrolled in an American university (French citizens are not allowed to apply)
- Candidates must obtain a letter of invitation from a French university, a Grande Ecole or a research institution before applying
- No particular level of French is required, though most
students need a certain level in order to conduct their
research
Benefits:
- Allowances of about €1300 a month, plus a "book allowance" of about €300
- A round_trip ticket to France
- A health insurance while in France
- 30 days of per diem for travel in France for research purposes
Calendar:
- Application deadline: December 15th
- Evaluation process: from January to February
- Decision announced in March
- The fellowship begins in fall and ends 9 months later
Factors considered in the evaluation of a candidate’s application:
- necessity to be in France for an extended period of time
- quality and originality of proposed research project
- choice of an appropriate French professor for the candidate’s research proposal
- letters of recommendation
- letter of invitation
- curriculum vitae, list of publications, and academic transcripts

Partner University Fund (PUF)

CALL FOR PROJECTS
2008-2009
The Partner University Fund (PUF) was created in May 2007 to promote innovative partnerships in research and higher education between French and American institutions of higher learning and research.
With a budget of 1.4 million USD allocated for its first call for projects, PUF aims to fund lasting partnerships in all disciplines in order to promote sustainable academic cooperation and mutual understanding between France and the United States.
Purpose
PUF supports emerging transatlantic partnerships over
a three year period, subject to annual
review by the selection committee.
Partnerships may combine elements such as: joint initiatives
in research and publications, faculty and postdoctoral
mobility, collaboration in teaching, shared programs,
joint and dual degrees at the master’s and Ph.D
level.

Project applications must be submitted by December 15th, 2007.
Funding decisions will be announced in March 2008 for the Academic Year of 2008-2009.

Institut Pasteur
CALL FOR APPLICANTS
Two programs at the Institut Pasteur in Paris for U.S. citizens
2007 Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Paris
These three-year fellowship positions are open to American post-doctoral scientists wishing to pursue research at the Institut Pasteur. With 2500 people of 60 nationalities, the 130 research labs of the Institut Pasteur are devoted to the basic science of improving global public health with particular emphasis on infectious diseases. Packages are $70,000 per year for three years. For a list of labs and further application information, visit our website. This is a Semi-Annual Call held every February and September.
Undergraduate Summer 2008 Internships in Paris
These 10-week internships at the Institut Pasteur, one
of the world’s leading private, nonprofit centers
for infectious disease research, offer hands-on laboratory
experience to undergraduates contemplating a scientific
career. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Living allowance
is $400 per week. See our website for information and
